TOWING A BIKE
Bakkies were originally designed for towing children's bikes up to 24”.
With a little technical skill and a few trial runs to make sure you're comfortable and safe, it's also possible to tow larger bikes. One or two Fixplus straps are sometimes required for towing adult bikes.
Why tow a bike? Here are a few ideas:
- Take a second bike in tow, so you don't end up on foot on the day of servicing at your favorite bike shop.
- Picking someone up at the station: a bike in tow on the way out and the suitcase on the way back in the Bakkie.
- For children, rides can sometimes be too long or the environment too motorized. With their child's bike in tow, they can return to their place on the luggage rack. No more worries about the length or quietness of the ride.
- Compact folding bike folded in the pannier or bike in trailer, 2 ways to ride light for parents who otherwise spend the day on a scooter while the kids are at school.

TRAVEL BY BIKE, BUT NOT ONLY...ALL YOUR BAGS BECOME BIKE-COMPATIBLE
Your different bags have one thing in common: they can all be easily transported by bike in a Bakkie.
You can carry :
- backpack for the day's work
- small or large computer bag
- sports bag, photo bag
- kite and board
- cabin-size suitcase
- hiking bag
- guitar and other musical instruments in case
- golf bag
- schoolbag
- beach bag
- shopping basket
- etc.
You don't have to choose between walking and cycling: taking your hiking bag with you gives you the freedom to set off on foot in the middle of a cycling trip, and discover places that are inaccessible to you. Why deprive yourself?

F.A.Q.
Are straps included?
Yes, you'll receive your Bakkie or Bakkie light with 3 straps (40, 60 and 90 cm) stored in their own pocket (under the reflective logo).
To differentiate them, the seams are in different colors.
How safe and easy is it to transport a guitar by bike?
Carrying your guitar on your bike in its bag or case is easy with Bakkies panniers. The guitar is placed vertically in the rack, with a strap holding the body against the bike at the bottom and another holding the neck at the top.
The padding of the holder prevents any bolts or protruding parts of the luggage rack from punching into the body of the instrument.
The all-textile design of the pannier eliminates bike vibrations.
My bike has small wheels, can I still use the Bakkies?
From 20 inches upwards, no problem. Below that, as on a Brompton, they're likely to rub the ground at the slightest bend.
In this case, however, it's possible to install them on the handlebars, as they are very high in relation to the wheel. Be careful with the load in this case: when the front of the bike is weighed down and the load turns with the handlebars (as with a handlebar-mounted bicycle basket), this changes the bike's behavior, so test beforehand and be careful!
Can the Bakkies be attached to the luggage rack?
By default, there is no system for holding the pannier against the luggage rack, for two reasons:
- The pannier support consists of two layers of fabric enclosing a foam panel. This padding protects your fragile cargo from the aggressive parts of the luggage rack (a guitar case, for example) and avoids the noise it might generate when banging against the rack. It's no big deal if the pannier swings away from the bike on a little bump, so it's all done in silence!
- The additional straps supplied allow this to be done if necessary, in the case of a very high object that could topple over the luggage rack, for example.
However, a chain of straps on the bike-side rack allows you to add a Velcro-type fastener, colson collar or similar, to be passed through the uprights of the luggage rack.
